if you like a medievel setting, this would be a nice game.
good tutorial. a lot of players who are offering their help. a lot of usefull information on the message boards.
the first week can be a bit less fun because you have to work your way up. this means you start as a poor peasant and you have to do some jobs. after a while you can become a farmer or fisherman if you do not like the thought of being a fisherman or farmer for the rest of your live then you have to read books and study, aby you can find a teacher in your town. this game is great fun and only takes 30 mins a day. ofcourse spending more time is possible too. the best part is that the game is free to play although you can pay as well and let your prays become reality in the church.

First I think I find a very nice game. Soon I find what is the true about RK. There are a very small number of players who have the power and they can do anything, they even can hang you without any reason. So if you want a game when you must to kiss an ass in order to advance, that is the game for you.

Like a criminal game, only here criminals are the police too. :( If you want to play it, you will be nothing more than a simple peasant for their entreteinment.

This game is fun on a lot of different levels for different types of people. You can participate in a political system, build a business, rob travelers and commit mayhem, defend against robbers, role play or just hang out and gab with some mostly very friendly other players.
The game is also relatively democratically run. It's the players themselves who actually control a lot of what happens (adopting political systems, managing trade between towns, voting for leadership etc.)
The graphics are pretty much non-existant, but the play is otherwise much more realistic and multi-faceted than a lot of more graphically intense games.

Best game I've ever found for mmorpgs, been playing nearly since the start of the game and the makers are always putting new things from economies to new ways for players to explore. :D the game in game takes little of your time if you don't have much and the forum is full of great players, fun role plays, guilds, everything it has :D

As complex as you want it to be. The game is truely enjoyable at 5 minutes a day. But if you want more, there seems no end to the layers on this onion. Great community with super friendly players. A very good site and very good roleplay possibilities. The day-to-day life system provides a method of weening out the casual ho-hum players, so what you wind up with is a steady community of dedicated players. Although many occupations may seen limited in scope, there are actually around 25-30 occupations available,....from fisherman, to veggie farmer, to beef baron, to Sheriff, or Lord. I am personally waiting for the vintener scripts to be coded so that I can go into growing grapes and producing wine ( they say that will come later this year )

Renaissance Kingdoms is my first experience playing a MMORPG game on the Internet. I started playing at the beginning of August 2006 and it's been a fun and entertaining way of spending time online for me. I've met some of the greatest people from all over the world, some who have become really close friends that I enjoy spending time with. I've learned a lot about managing, networking, and using various strategies for growing within the game. It has also been a great history lesson for me! I haven't participated in very many of the numerous role-play situations and stories that are created in the forum yet, but I've witnessed some extremely creative and talented players who allow their imaginations to soar, and I'm hoping one day I'll be able to develop the needed writing skills and participate more and I know that I will get that much more out of the game. Power, passion and yes even romance!

My favorite game but its not for everyone. There is no hack and slash to level up, in fact hardly any combat at all. Lots of guilds, and friendly people.

Pathetically simple and boring game with really nothing to do. This game does not reflect the Renaissance at all and no one in the design team has any knowledge of history what so ever. If you're looking for a five min a day game that has no combat and no substance than this might be the game for you. Parents be warned!!!! There is no control on the forums and a nest of pedophiles were discovered to be operating there inclusive of one of the chief administrators. When complaints were filed that administrator kicked out anyone making complaints.

The game is amazing if you choose to participate in the taverns and forums. It IS a role-playing game, after all. Some things are still in development, and there is the occasional bit of French thrown in, as the code that is written is still being updated and translated. However, I've been playing for 2 years and have never had any problem with it whatsoever.

Brilliant game!!! You get out as much as you put in which typically doesn't suit everyone, but the people it does suit, will be completely addicted! I've never played a game sooo much, I've now been playing for nearly a year and a half and still highly enthralled! That's coming from a player who's played many games in his time but I keep coming back to Renaissance Kingdoms because when you've completed, stuck or bored of other games, Renaissance Kingdoms always has something new to offer.
You have to build up your character's stats in the medieval times whilst building your reputation aswell - not just IG but on the forums where most of the action happens. It's a game where fantasy takes over and Role play is very important in interacting with the others around you.
The greatest strength of this game is its appeal to different tastes - you can choose a wide range of career paths or just concentrate and hone your skills to one. These include politicians, lawyers, doctors, military leaders, priests, economists, thieves or become a simple farmer and that's only a few of the choices.

I've played games MMORPGs before and RK is like no other... I play in my spare time between leveling my Druid to 70 on World of Warcraft, this game is quite fun. And, it's free! The community here is great. Take some time to check this game out, it's definately worth it.

I've been playing for over a year and I love this game. Where else can you get married, find your long lost family, have a baby, become a widow, and gain a noble title in the space of a year. The game may only take 5 minutes to play but the forums will keep you busy for hours. There is no other game like this. I love it so much I tried to find others and there aren't any.

Do you dream of fair maids or gallant Knights training and going off to war? Then this one is not for you.
This game does not live up to its name or claims of something better. Full of unfixed/ ignored flaws, there is no one thing done well except drive people away with arguing on the forums board. The only real thing recreated is the boredom, tediousness and in-fighting of the time.
Without a real purpose, this game is left as a simple daily choose what you eat/ where you work, button clicking and wait exercise.
Does not work well for even the 5 minute a day crowd since even trying to buy one item on the 'market' keeps you waiting for up to 10 minutes or more to say you didnt get it.
Unless you are the type of person who would enjoy the squabbling over almost everything on the forums, over all I have to say skip this one.

Fantastic game, but be forewarned, it is a slow, non-action based RPG: you really only need 10 minutes a day to play it. You can learn a lot about the game and talk with other folks for longer than that everyday, but you needn't. That's the nice thing.

I love it. If you have 5 mins a day/ your just a few clicks away. When you have more time chat to other players in the tavern or even roleplay in the forums.
Start off as a pauper, later gain a profession or even run a town. Travel around Europe in 1455. Check it out, helpful players, no one trying to rip you off cause your a noob. Its great.

This game is very nice because it is so much player-oriented.
I mean, there is quite very few game rules, it is the players that may decide to do something or not, to travel here or there, to star war or sign a peace traty, to produce such or such product...
Also, the game developpers don't give much information, on purpose, so the players have to interact with other players to explore and discover the new game potencialities (almost all the documentation has been written by players themselves); that player interaction is, imho, the best aspect of the game.
It has also expanded into several languages, allowing people from various languages to join; and a very interesting playing occasion for multilingual players (if you choose to travel to foreing kingdoms or become an ambassador for your Lord, King or Emperor... or if you have to fly away from the Bailly's men :) )

Though I am the first, I must announce the dangers in playing this game.
I played this game for 7 months, and brought in my entire family.
On my birthday I bought myself 7 tokens. I had only spent 1 token when I found myself deleted for a false charge.
No matter how much I tried they refused to give the benefit of the doubt (when they had no proof) to a loyal customer.

This game has always been lacking. I think a lot of the high reviews were based on the concept of the game, more than what is actually included in this game. I've been playing it for more than a year, and there is little to do in the game except for RP on the forums, which the Admins recently took steps to stop.
If you're looking for a good historical sim, keep looking. If you're looking for a game with lots of things to do, keep looking. If you're looking for a game where the updates which happen so rarely, somewhere along the line of maybe 2 times a year and are all negative to the player experience, then this might be the game for you.

Main reason for my 3/5 rating is because of the pubs being down, and the forums. The only reason I have to come into RK right now is to eat and work/hire. No pubs = no socializing. No forums = I cannot keep up on the stories I have been reading in other cities/counties. So why bother even coming into RK at all?? The ONLY reason I do keep up on my character is because I have several Real Life friends playin the game too. If they weren't there, I'd go find a different on-line game to play. The pubs are up and running maybe 1 out of 5-6 days....that doesn't make for happy citizens of England. I certainly hope they get things sorted out soon. My friend, character name of Harkaa, has been keeping up on whats going on via emails. He has even given the "powers that be coders" a solution for the pubs...but they have yet to impliment it. I miss the pubs...I REALLY miss the forums. Please, Please get it all straightened out soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay....I'm raising my rate from 3/5 to 4/5 because the pubs have been up and going promptly after reset, for 3 days now. I hope that means that they are finally getting that sorted out and we will be able to socialize right after reset is finished. Now the only thing that I see that needs fixing....the forums!!! I soooooo want to be able to surf through other city's forums again!!! There are 3 reasons I come into RK..eat/find work/hire ...surf in the forums...and socialize in the pubs. Surfing the forums is the only thing I cannot do, yet. I know for fact that I am not the only one that feels cheated because the forums are not accessable from all cities. I hope the powers that be RK coders/administrators is working to rectify this issue. Thank you for getting the pubs up and working again. Thank you for reading my review.

The admins are a pain. They changed gameplay to wreck the game's economy, they do all their coding for the French version of the game and ruin the english speaking world's game. Right now the game has just too many bugs and the new interface was beta tested on the players without their consent. After the torture many are leaving RK.

All the games try to put all the players in competition with each other, this one tries to include the mode of helping to achieve a greater good. This unfortunately is a game that suffers from lack of control. It is being translated from its original french version but the detachment from the english version has allowed a few bad players to ruin the playability of this game and has instead turned into a breeding ground of hate and game abuse. Much damage has been caused by a few even a few GAME MODERATORS while the owners blow off the problems.
For the real life hatred this has allowed to brew, I must recommend against this game.

The worst thing about this game are the admins. They are players themselves, of course, but they at least shouldn't cheat: bugs in armies always favour them. Same for bannings at the forum. You can tell which faction the admins belong to by looking at whom they ban. But the players in their faction can use insult. No problem.
